This is among thr nicest sand dunes, beach and marshes reserve in the UK.
It is easy to reach, with good connection to Exeter, Torquay, Paington, Exmouth through national rail services (can buy ticket in manned stations, or from train attendent if boarding at unmanned station), by bus and car. There are early trains that run hourly, to late evening in the summer.
All stations and parking are at the west edge, and are close to the nearby resort of Dawlish, which has several hotels, B&B, restaurants, and dates back from victorian era. There is also a small area with some children rollercoasters/attractions, facilities, shops, cafes and restaurants. Then you access the beach, which continues up nort/east to the mouth of the estuary.
The tide is very high, and the beach can be completely underwater at high tide, while long streches become exposed at low tide (google Exmouth tide table before hand to be safe). At high tide you can walk along thr sand dune, while at low tide you can walk along the edge of the beach, up to the tip, with views to Exmouth. Also at low tide, you can find lots of diverse seashells. Because its an estuary, the water is calm most of the times, making it a good place to visit with children.

This is one of the most beautiful coastal ranges, the nature reserve is amazing with weekly updates what is there. The wildlife is stunning.

Situated in a fantastic location, next to the golden sands, of the beach, it's certainly worth exploring. We had a lovely stroll towards the estuary, going along one path, and coming back another, as they often meet up, at various locations. So when walking through the deep dunes, got a little tough, we'd swap with the easier routes. Unfortunately, the Visitor's Centre was closed, due to the workers sharing an office, cos of Covid restrictions, so we never got to go inside, but can see they're doing a marvelous job, in maintaining the area, and helping wildlife, at the same time.

If you don't mind dodging the ridiculous amount of holidaymakers when arriving off the train and getting to the reserve, then this is actually a really rather pleasant nature reserve. There's a lot of wildlife and is fantastic for bird watching.

Really enjoyed walking along the coastline from here to Dawlish. Amenities good too.
