Dovedale was a bit too busy. However, we parked there and walked the 3 miles to Milldale. Not really suitable for prams or little legs as it is quite steep and slippery in places. However, if you're looking for a small hike I would recommend. The little shop at Mill Dale sells snacks, sandwiches and icecreams and the toilets are old but clean.

Beautiful place, so tranquil, lovely walks nearby and that trail will bring you to Dovedale, lovely little hamlet of Milldale and we bought duck food at the cafe window for the ducks

Beautiful spot in Milldale. Starting point for many great walks up and down and around Dovedale.

We arrived at Dovedale national park which has been taken over by the national trust.
There is a charge for the car park unless your a member.
The hike into millbank is 3 miles, it's very scenic my husband and i thoroughly enjoyed it, however if you have any mobility issues this might not be the walk for you as it's quite undulating in parts some very steep steps and a bit of uneven ground. For those who are willing to give it a try it's worth it. There are some cave's to be seen also. Alternative routes can be taken but these are more challenging. We arrived at millbank village and it was a quint little place and a welcomed break we visited Peggy's cottage cafe (shop) cup of tea and a sandwich reasonably priced, sat by the river Dove taking in the area. It was a busy little place with lot's of hikers and visitors. There are a couple of little holiday homes you can rent, sorry I have no information for those. The 3 mile walk back doesn't seem to be so strenuous!! It's definitely worth a visit just to take in the scenery.

Very pretty place. We parked up on the small Milldale car park. Parking is free. The road is tight and single lane with passing lanes. Seen a few beautiful houses walking down to the bridge. Noticed some houses were holiday lets. Free toilets available. There was a little cafe selling for taking away only. They sold sandwiches, scones, ice cream, cold drinks and coffee as well as plasters, painkillers and duck food. The coffee tasted nice and strong. Our pooches got frozzy ice creams. While the lab puppy ate the tub as well as the icecream our 4 year old lab was a bit fuzzy on the vanilla flavour and we gave it to another deserving dog who absolutely loved his freebie and so did his little human, a toddler, by holding it patiently. We walked along the river towards Dovedale. The scenery was breath taking. Our grown up lab couldn't get enough of the waters while our daughter scrambled into the cave to explore. We had a few hours of exercise and nice weather.

A beautiful morning to walk from Milldale to Dove Dale starting by crossing the Viator Bridge. Standing on the bridge and looking down in the river it was as clear as I have ever seen it even after the recent heavy rain. Very few people around at 9.45in the morning so the quietness was deafening, just the sound of the river flowing by.
The walk is about 6 miles there and back with some fantastic countryside to see. I have included a few photos which I hope might tempt you to try it yourself. Enjoy.
