We had a long flight from Tashkent to Istanbul and then Abu Dhabi. So in compare with Istanbul, Abu Dhabi airport is far away behind, but in compare with our not far ahead, I had expected more.
We had to walk quite a long way to the passport control (in Istanbul you have a walking elevator option). The passport control was fast, at 1st there were 2people working, but once they saw more passengers coming they arranged more staff.
The restroom on arrival is very small, as a result there is a queue, restrooms in Tashkent are better, but have to admit in Tashkent we don't have so many people travelling as here in Abu Dhabi.
Do not exchange money on arrival, as I did )) and keep in mind that you might not buy a sim card due the system failure (like us).
On departure if was a fast check in border control pass, very easy and without an officer, scan your passport and go. They also have a nice playground for children, that's amazing, I had never seen before inside airports.
So we had enough time to hang around and have a lunch. There is a duty free, expensive though, ,as there is not vodka for 12euro, despite it is a regular price for duty free in other airports I had visited.

Terminal 1 is nice and cosy but Terminal 3 is too crammed, especially near boarding time and around Gate 51. We need to take a long bus ride to the plane. Paid lounge also crowded. Shower room is free but need to have proper place to put your bags or luggage and to hang your clothes to prevent from getting wet from the splash.

Abu Dhabi International Airport is a world-class facility that embodies luxury and efficiency. Its modern infrastructure, impeccable cleanliness, and impressive range of amenities make it a true standout. From seamless check-in processes to extensive shopping and dining options, the airport provides a delightful travel experience. The staff's professionalism and warm hospitality further enhance the overall journey. A must-visit for anyone passing through Abu Dhabi.

Had a short stop-over on the way to Cairo. Mid sized airport with extensive duty free shops, cafes and other stores. Good amenities include plenty of toilets which are clean and well maintained. Plenty of chairs with some lounges available.

Decent airport. Good interiors and structural design. Toilets in every gate section and food courts are quite good. But nothing much to do here. Small “library” section with some books. Only 1 drinking water fountain that shoots warm water….. I saw some guys washing their foot in the washing basin in the bathroom. Never seen this experience anywhere before.

Not mammoth but big enough to get lost so stay close to your boarding gate about 45 minutes before boarding. Two terminals - 1 and 3, about 10 minutes away from each other. A few duty free shops. Decent stock of alcohol, spirits, chocolates, souvenirs, food options. Yes there’s a pharmacy, food court and relay store as well at the departures.
At the arrival, there’s a coffee shop, WH Smith etc

Arrival ????is truly international with well organised immigration counters and helpful officers. Easy exit with baggage collection. But departure ???? is a complete mess at the moment with no proper line system followed by individual airlines ground staffs. Probably, gets improved in a few months.

Pretty big airport.. lounges and waiting areas are just okay with lots of passengers around.

Seemed quite mismanaged as for catching my connecting flight to US, I had to stand in long queues for four time consecutively (two security check, 1 US custom clearance and the last very long queue to finally get on the plane) in a 3 hour layover period - that was quite hectic and tiring. Didn't quite get yet as to why there were two separate security check just one after another

I understand that it's one of the major airport in the middle East, and it serves as a hub for connecting flights to many destinations around the globe and thus quite busy on any normal day, but still things can be improved.

All the best!
