All Saints' is an unspoilt thatched church, built largely in the fourteenth century although it is of Norman origin. The church is a treasure house of local craftsmanship which is reflected in the very high quality of every feature of the church. Since it has not been used as a parish church for over 100 years, it remains one of the best examples of an unspoilt Suffolk church.

Along the tops of the north and south walls are beautifully carved cornices, with more carving around the niches at each side of the east window in the aisle. Traces of paint here show that the stonework would originally have been richly decorated. All the windows have elegant tracery and there is some excellent medieval stained glass in the south windows, showing two saints, with canopies above.

This now redundant Thatched roof church is still brimming with beautifully restored historic bounty to the eye, thanks mainly to the work of the Churches Conservation Trust.
Icklingham named after the Iceni (Boudicca etc.) and the church being again on top of a large mound/Hill top, points to a construction from the later incursion of the Saxons after Chritianisation, sadly, but also very pleasurably, some 12th century art work can be seen on the Nave wall. the rest is of a later time.
That said a very large Medieval tiled floor (the biggest in East Anglia) can be seen towards the east end of the Nave. This all adds to the atmosphere in a very pleasing way.

This Church always catches my eye as I pass it . A very beautiful sadly redundant thatch roofed church Grade 1 listed and some of the Norman nave dates from the 11th or 12th century . Icklingham stands on an ancient trackway of the Icknield Way once one of the four highways of medieval England running from Norfolk to Wiltshire and mentionedby Henry of Huntingdon and Geoffrey of Monmouth . A Roman Cristian graveyard was found here and a baptismal font with a chi rho monogram which can be seen at the British Museum too . A rather impressive tomb lays in one corner who ever rests here I am sure could tell a few stories . 14th century mosaic tiles on the floor and I was very interested in one of the stained glass windows . Well worth stopping for you church geeks like me out there .

WOW ! GREAT OLD CHURCH. Cemetery is old and has a unique feel to it. Wonderful example of old England. I pass it twice a day but will now enjoy it even more.

Open Daily. This is Icklinghams second church and is on the outskirts of the village. It has a wonderful interior.

All Saint’s Church is well worth a visit. The medieval floor tiles covering the sanctuary area and the center of the chancel are in fairly good condition. There is also a C14 font standing on 5 shafts at the west end of the Church.

All Saints' is a starkly beautiful reminder of an England that is gone but not forgotten. Reminders of its rural heritage include the most fantastic medieval tiles, common bench pews and funeral bier
