I had a superlative discovery yesterday for my Bengali food craving. Can't really stay away from mother's home-made food for long. Dubai had always had a big vacuum for the Bengali/Bangladeshi cuisines. It's truly surprising because Dubai has it's large chunk of share from the Bengali community- from both the sides of border.
Anyway, this relatively new restaurant of 4 months will definitely solve that issue to a large extent.
It's one of the larger shops in the middle of Karama, near the bus stand and also close to the metro station.
I liked that they do have a good menu with the usual suspects but during this unusual time, they have kept it small and put up a sign board , even outside about what to expect.
They are also having a category of Free food for the needy and poor. Kudos to that.
Food is absolutely Value for money and pocket friendly.
Service is methodical and friendly with lovable suggestions.
●Finally about the food- Best tasting Sorisha Ilish and Bengali style light Pulao , away from the homeland. I really admire the soft delicate and fresh Ilish they had which is plump and because it was without the eggs, it was fascinatingly flavourful. The mustard paste was done in picture perfect way, not a pinch of sourness at all. The server also gave me another plate of mustard paste without asking, anticipating my need of it to cover for whole of the pulao.
Eventhough I didn't ask for it, 3 types of bharta - which is ubiquitous in Bangladeshi type of cuisine, to me. Which I lived. Large balls of mishmash of common items- Dal, Shutki/sundried fish- a delicacy, and egg bhartas. They were all made with live, onions and some spice mix. Superb. May be the chilli part can be toned down somewhat. Dal bharta was the top for me.
●Additional advantage is that they keep fantastic bengali classic sweets from a Famous Bangladeshi sweetmeat shop delivered fresh everyday here. I had a nice Mishti doi.
And all this with water and salad, at only 25 dhs of princely sum!! Best #Hiddengem #Valueformoney restaurant hotel for me.
I would really love this place to improve with high footfalls in the future. Eventhough I can see that now also it's a huge hit with the bengali community and seats are never going empty as long as I was there.
So go for it friends.
● They have started a beautiful thali of 7 items at only 20 dhs. Just magnificent. I had a full high protein diet there. The menu has Fried/boiled egg, dal with mutton, or vegetables, mutton cutlet/kabab, chicken leg roast, Mutton or chicken bhuna, Watermelon juice, Payesh with Polao. Absolutely fantastic. Starts from Thursday night and continues to Friday night.
