High technology, low frequency, little coverage
Despite the super highways of more than 12 lanes, the city of Dubai is congested. The metro is a great option to get around at low cost through some areas of the city. It is high-tech, easy to use with instructions in Arabic and English, this facility is reinforced by the scarce availability of routes and low coverage of the metro. It is not possible to reach the palm islands by the metro (for now), you have to take another type of transport.
Being able to use this autonomous train system (without a driver) is wonderful in an elite city like this in the world, it is a special experience for people who come from countries like ours where most mass transportation is really inferior.
It is an opportunity to “smear” the local culture… We have seen men give up their position to their wives, in a culture that is considered macho. We really did not see any act that would lead us to reinforce this preconception that women are less than men.
In fact, the custom that the man always walks ahead of the woman comes from the desert, where the man must go ahead facing the dangers and possible quicksands protecting and safeguarding his wife and family.
At the moment the lines of the Dubai metro are quite limited, but if you are staying on Sheikh Avenue (the main avenue) you will find this means of transport clean, well structured, economical and very useful. There are signs forbidding to take fish in the metro (let's remember that Dubai comes from being a fishing village)
It can be used by families with children of all ages without difficulty, it has lift access at all stations or its equivalent in access ramps. Remember to avoid having expressions of endearment or holding hands with your wife or daughters…Dubai is an Emirate and there are still many traditionalist people who stick to the law that prohibits this type of expression of endearment in public places because they think that affection is something private for the home (same reason why Emiratis women (born in the Emirates) cover their entire body and face).
In some hours the frequency of the train is relatively low, which means that it can take significant waiting times (but not that much). The planning and arrival of the trains is punctual.
It is wonderful to get in touch with all kinds of people on the subway, not only tourists, but locals, business people, families... Highly recommended, as a means of transportation and a means of cultural contact.
Metro services is the main highlight of dubai. Dubai RTA is offering a good in services and cheap in cost transportation service through this metro project. Burj khalifa is one of the metro station in this service where you get metro services in every two or three minutes. Here well furnished waiting area is available with free public wifi. Here walk way link to burj khalifa and duball mall is available.
It's a famous metro station since it connects to the worlds tallest building, i.e., Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
This metro station will be crowded during weekends, especially during the evening and night.
If you are planning to visit Burj Khalifa and/or Dubai Mall, plan to spend at least 4-5 hours to get aware of the world class facilities, best shopping centers, magnificent views of Dubai aquarium and Burj Khalifa.
