My wife and I just wanted few days away, nothing wrong with hotel's but they are all the same after a while so we picked this pub.
Quiet country location, old oak beams abound, good check in very friendly and efficient. Room is basic but large by bed (Emma) great sleep, wonderful shower, all soft water and your 5 steps from the car park, didn't get disturbed by the customers.
Food: Damn good chef, really good menu, good service we haven't had this level of excellence in food for years.
Breakfast was very good, proper smoked bacon and good eggs, service was again very good.
We did have a little let down with the breakfast on the Sunday but I can't really hold that against them, these things happen and it was sorted out quickly enough. Other than that we'll be back as very restful and enjoyable visit.
Prices- very reasonable for both food and drinks, it's a little gem of place.

Fresh fillet of Hake in brown shrimp butter sauce with greens and new potatoes.

Slow cooked pork belly with black pudding mash and brown sauce gravy.

Had a fantastic meal here. Kim was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the specials. The fish n chips had such an amazing delicate batter and cooked to perfection. Hubby had the steak which was also cooked to perfection
Kim bought Dev ( the chef ) out to meet us and it was such a pleasure to meet someone who had a real passion for his craft. The pic is of my starter, a masterpiece of creamy garlic mushrooms. Can’t fault anything. Will be back for sure Tony and Carole

We stopped by today for Sunday lunch.

My wife is a coeliac so ordered her lunch (the roast pork) to be fully gluten free and it tasted fine apparently, but we’ve just returned home and sadly she’s having a gluten reaction which can only have been from the lunch. We wanted to let the venue know via email (as our phone signal at our holiday venue sucks) as obviously something went a bit wrong with the system and it’s ended up being cross contaminated but sadly there wasn’t an email apparent so had to go for the owners Instagram instead.

Big shame as like I say the food was lovely but sadly it’s turned out to be a bit of a let down.

Had a loverly evening meal, was busy with bookings (2 very large parties) but still managed to serve us in a reasonable time. Service was great and the food very tasty, though best if you like your veg on the "crunchy" side. I can recommend the mushroom pie, very tasty, and the kids fish and chips is a very generous portion!

Brilliant one night stopover for ferry. A bit out of town but well worth the extra 10 minute drive. Food, service all excellent. Room has all you need and complimentart coffee and tea.

Came in on the off chance ... we were later than lunch time. The lady who served us was rushed off her feet, but made us feel so welcome. The food was good and the fire was warm! This was May 2023 and it was pouring down outside. Really nice atmosphere.

We didn't stay, this review is for the restaurant. There was only one vegetarian option so we had to choose the vegetarian curry, there wasn't any indication of how hot it would be and the vegetables came in such big chunks that we were forced either bite them of the fork of attempt to cut them on the minute circular pot that wouldn't stay still in the very narrow platter were was placed along with the rice. There was no room to maneuver the food and it was so hot that I was sick afterwards. Those of us that asked for the meat platter were served on a chopping board were any attempt to cut the meat would result in it flying across the board on to the table. The presentation was anything but practical and instead of a pleasant experience the meal felt more like a disection or a surgery.

We drove out to have a meal with a table of 8. Had to wait 1:30 hours for food. Seafood was dry, over cooked and poorly prepped ( scallops were filled with sand and prawns were harder than bullets). Could make better food at home for a fraction of the price. Service was terrible! To the point where we wasn’t even asked for drinks in the long time we were waiting for food! We will never visit again
