I had a great time in junior school at Robert Gordons college. But when it came to secondary it was an absolute disaster. It’s all so fast and always on to the next thing. No support there for you if you need it. No understanding of everyone is different. I definitely wouldn’t send your child here if they take a little bit longer too process questions/ answers, or have learning difficulties.

I feel lucky I was able to teach in that amazing school. The experience I gained helped me a great deal once I got back into teaching in France. I'm sure my collegues will instantly remember who I was from my nickname. I wish I kept in touch with them, they were such an amazing team to work with.

A real academic environment with an easy accessible road. Haven't been inside but looks great from the outside.

Great Private school with welcoming students and teachers and with the best facilities. Definitely recommend this school - I think it’s the best in the whole of Aberdeen. It’s got playing fields in Countesswells and has tons of things on site such as swimming pools and science laboratories. Below are some pictures of me doing an eye dissection!

There are numerous changes that have happened within the past few years which would encourage me to say that the school experience is different now from what it was before. Several incidents were rarely reported and escalated to management, preventing appropriate intervention. Students should be encouraged to report incidents regardless of how much it affects them. I know a student who was bullied at PE but when he reported it to the teacher, he did not address the situation and responded by saying okay. This is not an acceptable way to deal with the situation. If these issues are not addressed appropriately then this can have further long term negative consequences on a child. I should add that the education system in general often fails to keep children safe as it does not make them aware of what should be reported to a trusted adult at the earliest stage possible. The fact that children are partly unaware of what to disclose puts them at risk of harm. The lack of education about the consequences of reporting make children vulnerable to misconceptions and leaves very little incentive for sharing sensitive information. The policy needs to be reviewed. Communal areas should be supervised by more teachers. Supervision is important but I feel as if it was simply not adequate in this school outside class. Speaking of this, if teachers notice something suspicious them they should investigate it as soon as possible. It is not enough to comment and move on when handling long term issues. Students weren't allowed to enter the library when they wanted to and they were told that the library is full. It would be advisable to build a bigger library. However, there are study rooms which students can access. The lunch queue was quite long and it would have been better if the school found a different way to manage it. Some teachers had a go at pupils who are not aware of their expectations. There's no need for that. Other than that, I think the quality of teaching is good. Teachers are very capable and provide extra support when required. There are plenty of clubs and societies which allow wide extracurricular participation. PSE sessions are interesting and discuss a wide variety of topics. Guidance teachers should encourage pupils to discuss any issues which affect pupils outside class, so that they can provide emotional support. The career guidance and work experience schemes prepare students for the future, however, many of my friends mention that the widening participation programme in Scottish universities put private school pupils at a significant disadvantage. I am convinced that this is true after hearing countless cases of where this is likely. Even though teachers can be critical in parents evening, I think that this can allow students to identify areas of improvement and work on them.
A lot of the opinions in this review are based on events which happened quite a while ago. It is important to find the cause of problems and address them- and I think that the appropriate availability of a dedicated support team to deal with every situation should be helpful. Teachers will often have multiple roles in the school and this can make them difficult to find if pupils want to discuss something. The use of email to communicate with teachers has sorted out the issue, although there is an additional delay with this.
I must mention the importance of addressing situations which warrant further investigation. It seems like some teachers attempt to intimidate pupils and this destroys the student teacher relationship, impacting upon the quality of education pupils receive. Instead of commenting on an incident with a divisive judgement and moving on, it is more appropriate to understand the causes of problems through private discussion and work with students to overcome them. This may involve long term support.
There are plenty of wonderful things which teachers do in this school despite what I have said so far. I definitely hope things will improve to make the school experience better and more consistent.
