With your eyes closed hope your tongue often plays the game: pehchan kaun...... and loves to differentiate between pure ghee & pure cow ghee; masala dosa & Mysore masala dosa; Anjeneyar vadai &

Maddur vadai; coffee robusta & coffee arabica and so on. However if you are nodding your head in disagreement then you sure have more important things than I do and sincerely request you to stop reading any further!

Now that only foodies like me are here, let's me share my opinion about Al Ghaar!

Location wise suits both Dubai & Sharjah residents. Also a decent drive from near by Emirates. There is ample parking both free and paid.
The first thing I noticed is a big genuine smile on the face of all staff making it obvious that they are not working for money but for their passion. The aroma of freshly ground masalas will be a treat to your nostrils.

A small, decent, neat and clean restaurant with see through kitchen with no refrigerator will only take your appetite one notch up!
Typically here you will find special cuisines of North Karnataka and Maharashtra with some tinge of Andhra & Telangana.

Speacial Thali is a must try during lunch n dinner. Mirchi bajji is the starter followed by 4 to 6 varieties of rotis, 3 different curries, sambar, rasam, mixed salad, chutney, peanut podi with curd, preserves, special rice, butter milk and in desert obbatu/puran poli with special cow ghee.

Jowar roti with baigan ki sabzi is the catch. Akki roti with dilli leaves will enhance your taste buds.

Methi roti (almost tastes like thepla but with less oil) and ragi roti are easy on stomach. Bazre ki roti will remind you of bazro no rotlo with ghee godd. However, here it is eaten with tangy n spicy veggies. Mirchi bajji is just aptly spicy, butter milk is simple but tasty, different rice preparations every day will make you eat here often. Last comes obbattu/holige/puran poli with dollops of special tuppa (ghee)

Dal & coconut holiges are a must try. Peanut and sweet potato holiges are also heavenly treat. Almost all the main course items are unlimited. You will be surprised that you have such good appetite as by then you would have had at least 3 to 4 rotis, few extra serves of baigan curry(these are repeated in every meal) and tonnes of butter milk. All these are so meticulously prepared that they are tasty yet very easy on us. In some restaurants with unlimited thali i find the waiter inconspicuous after 2nd or 3rd round of helping but here that motherly treatment was given to me even on the seventh visit to Al Ghaar! For the first time, the salad in your plate will have inferiority complex looking at the other sattvik delicacies in your plate. The only thing that you may miss is the beeda(paan) which of course is not allowed in the UAE. However after the heavenly treat you may not remember paan as by now all your sensing organs may be thanking you again and again!

They have Aa la carte too. For breakfast n dinner they have many varieties to choose from but ye kahani phir kabhi.

Are you still reading? Hats off! Had I been you, I would have driven half way to Al Ghaar by now with full volume of the Vengaboys distorted song.
I am going to Al Ghaar. Gonna have a party.......

In one word: Awesome

Our family travelled all they way from Fujairah to eat at Al Ghaar and it was totally worth it.

Al Ghaar is the go to destination for delicious, vegetarian, healthy and traditional North Karnataka Food. They provide a lot of millet based food options and use minimal oil in their dishes.

In addition to their excellent food, they also have excellent hospitality and hygiene standards. You really feel at home, when you visit Al Ghaar.

We were greeted with a complimentary Peanut Holige, Buttermilk and Mirchi Bajjis. The bajjis are some of the best ones I have had.

Then we ordered a couple of special thaalis.

They provide three types of Rotis: Jowar Rotti, Ragi Rotti and Akki Rotti. They were very well made. They have an open kitchen and you can see the food as it is prepared. The rotis are prepared in a very interesting way, make sure to check them out.

The brinjal curry in the thali is to die for. In addition they also provide other curries and chatnies. They are all very lite as minimal oil is used. The curries and chatnies are very delicious, tangy and spicy.

After the meal, we are served Holiges (also known as Puran Poli in Marathi or Bobbattu in Telugu).

They have a wide variety of Holiges: Dal Holige, Coconut Holige and Sweet Potato Holige. The Holiges are served with sumptuous amounts of Desi Ghee and are simply delicious. They will remind you of the Bobbattu you would get back home.

In conclusion, in my mother's words- "Al Ghaar is a home away from home".

I would be happy to write a review of a Karnataka themed restaurant Al GHAAR based on the quality of food and satisfaction I experienced during my lunch there.

As a 2nd time visitor, I was excited to try out this restaurant in Karnataka, known for its delicious vegetarian food. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere, with simple decor and comfortable seating. The staff were courteous and attentive, which made me feel welcomed and appreciated.

Now, onto the food. I started with some appetizers, Onion Bhaji (Onion fretters). The fretters were perfectly spiced and fried and yet very light on the stomach. The chutneys served with them were also a great complement to the dish.

For the main course, We tried the signature dish of the restaurant Thalipeeth, roti made of Rice, Ragi and Jawar millets. The roti were served hot and the aroma alone was enough to get my taste buds excited. The dish was accompanied by dry peanut chutney, green chutney, yogurt and moong dal. The flavors of the dish were simply incredible, and I could taste the skill and expertise that went into preparing it. The complementary lightly spiced butter milk which is a traditional part of the south Indian meals added to the flavor and balanced the taste.

Overall, my experience at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable vegetarian dining experience in Al Nahda Sharjah, near to Ansar Mall.

So visited this place after reading many positive reviews. Basically i was looking to have a veg thali, which brought me and my wife to this restaurant for dinner.

After reaching this restaurant, the person who attended us told us which all sabzi( Curry) will be there in Thalis however what i was looking was for a north Indian Thali which should have paneer, daal.

So when we were been told those are not available in Thali we got bit disappointed but then since we were hungry, asked what all other food is available. The person told us what all are available and we decided to order Masala Dosa, Puri Sabzi and Tea. To be surprised all these food when came it was yummy.

Masala Dosa - Typical Karnataka Style Masala Dosa very crispy and full of ghee. It was yummy, the stuffing masala aloo was also good, had good amount of spice which made the masala Dosa perfect. Then comes the sambar and Green chatni, Green Chatni was the highlight it was damn good. Sambar also was good, different from Karnataka style, normally in Bangalore sambar is always sweet, but this one was very much different not sweet, not much spicy but different, even not like kerala or Madrass style, but it was good.

My Rating for Masala Dosa 5/5 Do give a try if u visit this restaurant.

2. Then we tried Puri Sabzi. 3 medium size puri with same green chatni, alooo ki sabzi and with small brown beans curry. In mayalalam we can relate to payar curry, in this brown bean curry was the highlight, yum it was , we asked to refill it they did without charging extra.

Ratings 5/5 Price 5/5 very much affordable.

Over all we ordered 1 Masala dosa, 1 plate puri sabzi and 1 plane Dosai and 2 tea and total bill 35 aed.

Tea : 3/5

Over all ratings for this restaurant i would rate 4/5. Services was fast and professional. The person who was taking order was professional and behaviour was really good.

Surely would recommend people from south to try this restaurant which is located close to Night and Night hypermarket al nahda Sharjah.

Latest on 15th Jan tried their thattu idli and vada.
Thattu Idli : Rating 4/5 Taste was good, It was soft and size was also medium big. Price I felt may b bit high approx 13 aed for 2 Idli.

VADA : Rating 4/5 Taste was good it was hot and crispy very well made. I would have loved to give 5 star but again for 2 Wada AED 12 or 13 aed approx i felt bit high.
