We really enjoyed our Latin inspired dinner here! We ordered a few items so we could try them tapas style and everything was delicious! We had a Super unique experience when our amazing server, Maria, brought the smoked guacamole! She also went above and beyond every chance she had. She recommended a few drinks ( I believe the bartender's name was Daniel) that were made perfectly balanced and with very fresh ingredients (passion fruit was one of them) which enhanced the incredible meal we were having. The staff was very warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped through that door. Thank you for making our night an unforgettable one! We will certainly be back to try more of the menu the next time we are in Abu Dhabi ????????❣️

A wonderful atmosphere only topped by great service. The food was not only well presented by the flavors were new. We had a 4 course menu and portion Ave everything on it was great including portion sizes. Dessert portion size however was too small. Overall, loved the entire experience!

Prices are way too high for what they offer, and dishes are super small. Quality is OK, but there are much better options at the conrad Hotel and Abu Dhabi. The restarant used to have a great view of the skyline but now a construction covers part of it. Its a nice place woth ncoe atmosphere but I wouldn't go back

Oh wow.. I was so looking forward to visiting Vakava, and I was not disappointed. The service was first class, and the team all from South America were not only friendly and knowledgeable about the menu but also the variations of the dishes across the continent. The presentation of the smoked guacamole was pure Theatre, the Lomo Saltado exquisite, but..... The Tres Leches eclipsed all.. Wow

This is one of the best Latin restaurants in Abu Dhabi. The food is a Peruvian infusion with great taste overall. The staff made us feel welcomed at all times. Thank you to the host Maria Jose, waiter Mafer (amazing personality), busser Alejandro, bartender Mariana (A+), to the amazing chef Ever, and last but not least to Zaimy. Without Zaimy’s recommendation from the Tapas Restaurant, we wouldn’t be able to visit this place.

We went for the brunch and it was very good. The food has a unique flavor, the vibe is very Latin, we also loved the after party place upstairs. It’s worth the experience.

Great bottomless brunch with after dinner party upstairs after. Check before you go, though, as we'd heard they're changing it to a sushi bar soon. Service by Daniel was excellent. He regularly made sure our glasses were topped up and extra dishes were offered

Unfortunately not a lot to see, parking is an issue and all the information boards dotted around the ruins had been broken/defaced.

Seems to be of more interest for somewhere for the local teens to hang out, pleasant surroundings with a walk along the river Dee but I doubt I'd visit again.

Not much left of the castle itself now, but you can still climb up on top of the remains. Thankfully there are some excellent information boards, recreating the castle and surrounding area as it would have looked. Beautiful setting and very unusual castle and construction. Definitely worth visiting this castle and taking in Holt village too.

On the surface there appears to be very little left to see at these ruins but once you have taken a little bit of time to have a look around there are plenty of fantastic little details remaining the setting is nothing special but the castle itself is fantastic. A real treat for those visitors that are willing to put a bit of effort in.

Wish I hadn't been drawn to this place by the rave Google reviews! For me, it was not worth travelling to for a visit. But if you are into castles and passing, it might be worth a stop. Interesting history, just not much left of it to look at (most of it was dismantled to be used for a manor house in Chester). It says something that the Welsh clearly weren't bothered about maintaining it. (It's looked after by English Heritage). All the protective fencing around the top of it, though for health and safety, makes the ruins look like an eye sore. They could have used wooden fencing / steps to blend into the environment and stop it from looking like it's under construction. Popular dog walking area for the locals, so visiting on a hot summers day meant the place smelt unpleasant! ????????

Leftovers of once great castle with a great history. It is sad that castle was dismantled in order to construct separate building in chester . However interesting site for quick pop in , surrounded by picturesque river dee

Stop off on my way to wild camp and grabbed a sandwich here. It was a pretty lovely and tasty ham and cheese sandwich. Lovely location setting, friendly staff and clean environment. My only issue is with there pricing structure. I order a sandwich on the menu that said it was about £3.50, and a can of Fanta for £1.50 but was charged about £7.75 for the total. I mean it was an okay sandwich in the middle of no where so I can understand the high price but they could at least make it clear what the real price to customer is. So I felt that their pricing was dishonest. I was ordering based on the amount of change I grabbed from the car, I was thinking that the £7.50 I walked with would've been enough for the order I placed but I of course had to go back to the car to get 25p more

What a find. Little gem. Lovely little walk along the river.
What people don't often realise this with this place. Is the original Castle was massive. Like massive. The main road that runs past it is the line of the walls.
Not lots to see what's left here. But the village is good to visit as there is some really nice little cafés.

Holt Castle is another unassuming ruin, a squat sandstone stack decaying on the Welsh side of the River Dee; but during its heyday, Holt Castle was one of the most impressive strongholds in Britain.
Constructed between 1282 and 1311, the castle was built by John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey to defend a strategic river. De Warenne was given the Welsh lands on which the castle now sit by Edward I, as part of the king’s wider plans for the invasion and subjugation of Wales.
De Warenne was aware of James of Saint George’s work along the North Wales coast in the massive fortifications at Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Harlech. The castle at Holt was smaller but no less imposing or defensible.
Holt Castle is very much an English construction, the land was shaped around the fortress. The 12 metre sandstone promontory on which the castle sits is not a natural formation but was created intentionally by quarrying out the area around it. The resulting moat was far deeper than it is today and was flooded by the Dee for much of the year. Holt Castle was pentagonal, with substantial towers on each corner. The castle was approached by a steep ramp up to the barbican.
King Richard II used the castle as his personal treasure house. Owain Glyndwr failed to capture the castle during his rebellion in 1400. Apart from a brief period in late 1643 where the castle was held by the Parliamentarians, Royalists garrisoned Holt Castle throughout the Civil War. The garrison only surrendered in 1647 after 9 months of siege. The castle was slighted a year later
After the Civil War, Holt Castle was largely dismantled. Using barges to carry the stonework down the Dee, between 1675 and 1683 Sir Thomas Grosvenor, 3rd Baronet of Eaton, took the castle apart stone by stone to rebuild Eaton Hall.
